After students complete their application to CCSF, they should complete Orientation, Assessment, and Counseling. Students who complete all the enrollment steps will receive priority registration.
Am I required to complete the assessment step? All new, non-exempt students should complete assessment. Assessment establishes your placement level for English and math and will clear appropriate English and math prerequisites. Students who need English language acquisition should take our ESL Placement Test.
I don’t understand my placement results. What should I do?Your placement results establish your eligibility for courses; these are not recommendations. We encourage all students to meet with an academic counselor to discuss their educational goals at CCSF and to determine the best classes for them.
What if I am not satisfied with my placement? If you are not satisfied with your original English, Math, or Credit ESL placement; you can submit a prerequisite challenge form and attach a copy of your transcript or supporting documents for review. You can also contact the appropriate coordinator to discuss your placement.
You will see a prerequisite error if your placement results do not meet the prerequisite for the course or if you did not complete the prerequisite course at CCSF. Please refer to our Prerequisite Challenge process.
How do I find out what the prerequisites are for a class? You can view the prerequisites in our course catalog. You can also view the prerequisites when you register for classes through myRAM.
What is the next step after completing assessment? After you complete the new student online orientation and receive your placement result, please see a counselor to develop your education plan.
Can I sign up for a class if I am currently taking the prerequisite course at my school?Students need to have completed and received their final grade (C or higher) before we can process their placement or prerequisite challenge form. We cannot process any form if the course is currently in progress.
Do you accept unofficial transcripts to process English and Math placements or Prerequisite challenge forms?
We accept unofficial transcripts as long as we can verify your name, the grade, and the school your transcript is coming from.
Note: submitting your transcript to the Assessment Center is only for assessment/placement purposes. If you plan to transfer external coursework to CCSF to fulfill certificate and/or degree requirements, you will need to submit your official transcript to Admissions & Records, which is a separate process.
